My Fantasy Ball Football Mid-season Tips for Winning your Fantasy Football League

I hear what you’re saying. It is the middle of the season. Your fantasy football team is on the right track to win your championship. You have studied the Yahoo cheat sheets religiously. Or, you have looked at the ESPN Fantasy Football Rankings until you can’t see straight. Or, on the other hand, maybe your team is headed right for the cellar. Despite your best efforts, you haven’t been able to make your fantasy football team work. You actually showed up for the draft. You bought the Athlon fantasy football guide. You had the best fantasy football draft software. You had every fantasy football cheat sheet and fantasy football rankings sheet. Yet, you couldn’t make it work. Don’t despair. There is still time.

Before you get to the cellar, I ask that you take a minute to read this article, read a few mid-season fantasy football tips, and perhaps, you can get your fantasy football team on the right track to success. However, if you are the guy who is operating the fantasy football team that is on the right track, you just might benefit from a few tips also that will make the rest of your season a success. Trust me; these tips are better than digesting more fantasy football rankings.

Here are my five mid-season fantasy football tips to getting your fantasy football team ready for the fantasy football playoffs:

1. Check your fantasy football team. Now, I know this sounds common sense and completely ridiculous. You have been checking your fantasy football team the entire season, right? Well, if you have been checking your fantasy football team and making changes, hopefully, you’re on the right track. But, if you are not, realize that at this point in the season many fantasy football owners have thrown in the towel. They are tired of adjusting their line-ups and reading fantasy football rankings. This will enable you to be able to capitalize on their late-season laziness. Simply checking your fantasy football team and making the appropriate changes (e.g., benching players who are injured, etc.) will enable you to possibly pick up one or two wins that you otherwise might not get late in the season.

2. Look ahead at the NFL schedule and get play-off bound players out of your fantasy football team line-up. Every single year, I see a great team in one of my leagues get destroyed due to a lack of planning. And, for a serious fantasy football player, a lack of preparation is tragic and inexcusable. Many fantasy football owners think that they can simply operate with Yahoo fantasy football rankings, ESPN fantasy football rankings, CBS SportsLine fantasy football rankings, Athlon fantasy football rankings, or the fantasy football rankings from another publication. But, at this point in the season, you have to start looking at the schedule. This season, it is fairly clear that the Colts will win the AFC South, for example. You need to be looking at your fantasy football schedule-at week’s 14, 15, 16, and 17. You need to look at your fantasy football playoff schedule and compare it to the NFL schedule. Examine who you have at running back. Examine who you have at wide receiver. Are these players on teams that are absolute shoe-ins for the playoffs? I will give you an example to illustrate my point. A few years ago, when the Philadelphia Eagles locked up their home field advantage early on and Donovan McNabb was having such an outstanding fantasy football season, a friend of mine in a league that I’m in had his fantasy football team implode because the Eagles benched McNabb. You do not want this to happen to you. Look at the NFL standings, see who will be benched, and plan ahead to get them out of your fantasy football team’s lineup.

3. This goes along live Tip Number Two. Look ahead at the NFL schedule and find backups to place in your lineup. When you see that certain teams are locking up home-field advantage or getting to the playoffs (and they don’t have a hope for home-field advantage), capitalize! If you know the starting running back will be on the bench late in the season, grab his backup. If you know the starting wide receiver who has been your go-to guy all season will be benched because his team is going to the playoffs, grab his backup if you are in need of depth at that position. Even if you are not in need of depth at the particular position, it may be advantageous for you to grab that player anyway to prevent your fantasy football competition from doing so.

4. Analyze your competition. This is what separates great fantasy football owners from average fantasy football owners. Most fantasy football owners do not plan ahead. Sure, they read fantasy football rankings every week. They do not think beyond next week. As you get close to championship weeks (weeks 14, 15, 16, and 17), you should look ahead at your potential field of competitors. Figure out what their weaknesses are. If a particular wide receiver owned by a potential play-off competitor of yours is playoff bound and you know that the player may get benched during the playoffs, go ahead and grab his backup. Prevent your fantasy football competition from being able to fill that niche.

5. Know your league’s deadlines. One of the leagues that I am in has a trade deadline that has already passed. You may need to make a big trade late in the season. But after the deadline has passed, you are stuck with your team. Know what your league’s deadlines are, and make the deals at the appropriate time.

Although it is helpful, reading fantasy football rankings, cheat sheets, and benching injured players is just not enough. You have to be pro-active and strategic. Fantasy football is a chess match. And, you have to think like a chess player. Analyze your opponents and block them from moving. Follow these guidelines and you will be equipped to combat your late-season competition and excel in the playoffs.

Costing €290 million to build, the Stade De France is home to 172 executive suites. Although a fairly recent build, it lacks underground heating – a problem that lead to the cancellation of the Ireland v France rugby match in 2012. Stade De France boasts the two largest LED screens in any stadium in Europe. Sporting events aren’t the only feature on the stadium’s programme, it also hosts many different live concerts. Bands who have previously played include; The Rolling Stones, Roger Waters, Madonna, Rihanna, Muse, Coldplay, Lady Gaga, Metallica, Johnny Hallyday, Prince, The Black Eyed Peas, U2, AC/DC, Andre Rieu and George Michael.

Due to its modern build, its specifically engineered to host rugby league, rugby union, Australian rules, football and cricket. The ANZ cost a staggering A$690 million to complete. Most recently, international cricket has been added to its repertoire with a Twenty20 match between Australia and India on 1 February 2012.

Number One – Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne.

The oldest stadium on the list, MCG was built in 1853. It’s regarded as the birthplace of test cricket and Australian football. It can hold up to 100,018 spectators, making it the largest stadium in Australia and the tenth largest in the world. Pre-health and safety legislation, 130,000 people crammed themselves into the arena in 1959 for a Billy Graham evangelistic crusade. The 2006 redevelopment of the North Stand alone cost $445,000,000. Outside the entrance of the MCG there is a Parade Of Champions – made up of statues of famous Australian athletes. There is also the National Museum of Sport on site. Many superstars have performed here, including Madonna, U2, Michael Jackson, Rolling Stones and The Police, and even Pope John Paul II held a mass when he visited Melbourne in 1986. Other sporting spectacles that have been held there include Australian World Cup soccer qualifiers, rugby league home and away matches and State of Origin as well as Bledisloe Cup rugby union clashes.

Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders

«America’s Team», the Dallas Cowboys, of the National Football League, are a much-loved team. Not only are the Dallas Cowboys famous for their success on the field, they are also famous for the ladies who cheer them on, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. Dressed in the team colours, blue and white, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders perform precision dance routines while cheering their team to victory. Fans watch in awe as the cheerleaders make it look effortless all the while maintaining a bright smile. Like the Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders are known the world over.

There have been cheerleaders on the sidelines of Dallas Cowboy games as long as the team has been around. In the beginning the cheerleaders were high school students who cheered on the success of their team all the way through to the 1971 Super Bowl Championship. The then general manager of the Dallas Cowboys recognized that professional football had become more than a sport – it was actually sports entertainment. The idea for a more professional form of cheerleaders was born. Accomplished dancers were sought to carry out the role as Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader tryouts were held. With the launch of the 1972-1973 season the world of cheerleading would change forever as the Dallas Cowboys introduced their new cheerleaders at Texas Stadium. The chants and cheers of the past were replaced with pirouettes, and jazz dancing. Beauty and athleticism were blended together and brought to the football field – a new wave in sports cheerleaders was launched. The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders launched the world of professional sports cheerleaders.

The success of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders grew each year, as did their demand for personal appearances. Soon they had their own director who would eventually launch them to worldwide fame. The fans at Texas Stadium loved their cheerleaders but it wasn’t until they were seen on camera in 1976 at Super Bowl X that they caught the attention of an entire nation. The Dallas Cowboys became Super Bowl Champions during the 1977 season and at the same time the fame of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders was cemented forever. From that point on the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders became a phenomenon off the football field as well as on. «America’s Team» was cheered on by «America’s Sweethearts». Young ladies dreamed of attending Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader tryouts and becoming a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader. Those who have no hope of ever making it to the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader tryouts can still live the dream by getting Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader memorabilia found at Dallas-Cowboys-apparel.com.

The appeal the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders beyond the football field became evident as their number of appearances grew. They had their own shampoo commercial and launched the start of the 1978 NFL season with a special entitled «The 36 Most Beautiful Girls in Texas». They have been the subject of and starred in two made for TV movies and have appeared in feature films as well. Their list of TV appearances is vast. Beyond the borders of the United States their fame and appeal is just as grand as they have traveled the world over to meet their fans. Indeed, the fame, appeal and demand for the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders is so great that they have their own show group. They also spend countless hours lending their name and time to charities such as the United Way.

The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, «America’s Sweethearts», are an idea born out of professional football. They have, however, moved far beyond the sidelines of Texas Stadium and the Dallas Cowboys to become a phenomenon in their own right.

World Cup History

World Cup Soccer is an international association football competition participated by the men’s national teams of the members of Fédération Internationale de Football Association or FIFA, the sport’s global governing body.

The world’s first international football competition was a challenge match held in Glasgow year 1872. It was a match between Scotland and England. At that stage the sport was rarely played outside the United Kingdom, but it grew in popularity in other parts of the world at the turn of the century. It was held as a demo sport with no awards at 1990. However, in 1904 Summer Olympics the IOC has upgraded the status to official event.

FIFA was founded in 1904. The organization tried to arrange an international tournament between nations outside the Olympic framework in Switzerland in 1906. All throughout its early days, the official history of FIFA described the event as a failure.

As the years past and improvements were made, first world cup was made. Thanks to the success of the Olympic football tournaments, FIFA together with the president, the driving force was again started. Staging an own international tournament outside of the Olympics was part of the plan. On May 28, 1928, the FIFA Congress in Amsterdam the plan came to be. It was decided to stage a world championship organized by FIFA.

Selected nations with national football associations were requested to send a team. Uruguay as a choice was a hindrance though. It meant that the competition would be a long and costly trip across the Atlantic Ocean for Europeans. No European country pledge to send a team until two months before the start of the competition. President Rimet, who was at that time the FIFA president, persuaded Belgium, France, Romania and Yugoslavia to participate. To be exact thirteen nations took part on the first World Cup Soccer event. Seven teams from South America, four from Europe and two from North America, all in all.

Far from the difficulty that the old organizers went through is the extravagant existence of the World Cup Soccer Tournament 2010, currently held in South Africa is this year’s main sport event. The biggest and most prestigious tournament in the football industry is first time to set this year in an African land. Five new stadiums, 5 renovated venues, improved public transports, millions of prizes and screaming fans – that’s what World Cup Soccer event came to be.

A Look at Ronaldinho

For any soccer fan who loves a champion, Ronaldinho is their Brazilian God. He not only has become one of the best soccer players in the world, but he has proven to have enough talent to last a lifetime. This winner stunned critics, as he recently won the FIFA World Player of the Year award in 2004. Although he had a tough time growing up, the soccer player has pushed all boundaries and has finally been able to live his dream.

Born and raised in Brazil, Ronaldinho grew up in a poor community. Although this was a struggle, his family stayed strong and began playing soccer as a pastime. Surprisingly, Ronaldinho’s father and brother began playing on an amateur team, which may have driven his son to pursue the sport further. Even though his other siblings were amazing players, Ronaldinho had the same undying passion. Luckily, his father was able to see a potential that no one else took notice of. Ronaldinho not only had the talent, but he had the motivation to go the extra mile. As a result, Ronaldinho was on the path to fame and glory.

Unfortunately, the path to fame and glory began short. Ronaldinho’s father drowned in a swimming accident when Ronaldinho was just beginning his ambition. However, his memory would continue to live on, and push the future soccer player to achieve his accomplishments.

The first big accomplishment for Ronaldinho was in 1997, when he scored over 15 goals for Brazil’s Under 17 Championship. From then on, dozens of prominent teams were dying to sign him. Although hundreds of generous offers were given to Ronaldinho, he did not feel like it was his time to move on. Finally, in 20001, he signed with PSG.

During this time, he moved to PSG’s location to begin playing European football. However, his new chapter was only causing negative tidal waves. PSG’s manager, Luis Fernandez, claimed that Ronaldinho was too wrapped up in the club life. With drinking and other interruptions, PSG felt that he was not focusing on what was supposed to be important to him. Fortunately, in 2002, he was able to show them that he was far from oblivious. Ronaldinho impressed thousands as he did very well in the 2002 World Cup. Unfortunately, Ronaldinho wanted to move on, and start another chapter in his life.

After being offered 31 million dollars, Ronaldinho began playing with Barcelona. The champion impressed sports fans immediately, after he took Barcelona to the #2 spot in the Spanish league. Since then, Ronaldinho has been awarded the 2004 FIFA World Player of the Year award. Through dedication and hard work, Ronaldinho was able to break all barriers. With his father’s memory and words of wisdom in hand, the infamous soccer player was talented enough to become one of the greatest players in history. Although he is now a millionaire, Ronaldinho still doesn’t feel like he is the best player out there. He is simply the same boy he always was – ready to work hard and play even harder.

What Has Happened to the NFL? The Disintegration of Professional Sports in America

I am a huge sports fan. I love the NFL and have been a life long Oakland Raider fan. Indeed, at age 8, I got a Kenny Stabler football uniform for Christmas. The NFL has always been part of my life and I look forward to it every year. I love the fall season as it turns to winder and football is a big part of that for me. So, it is with sadness that I have watch pro sports in this country become totally neutered and a joke for any intelligent fan to watch.

It seems though that the NFL is becoming more like the NBA in that players play the game and the refs decide them. The players no longer decide who wins the game on their own merits, the referees do. It is sickening to watch when EVERY game contains multiple: phantom pass interference calls. Peyton Manning gets another chance at a touchdown because he got knocked in the head-he has a helmet on! Touchdowns are taken away every game by some new rule that isn’t a rule and all previous rules are disregarded or interpreted differently. Lost fumbles where it was obviously not a fumble, but it stands because the team was out of challenges left. If you watch the games like I do, you see this every game. Refs over replaying and over analyzing to the point where it is not a game anymore, but a war of rule interpretation. You cannot even look at a quarterback anymore without drawing a fine and a 15-yard penalty and games are frequently decide late by pass interference. Just ask Pittsburgh’s James Harrison how he feels about the $100k he has been fined this year alone.

Yes, winning the games by superior athletic ability, skill, coaching, planning, those days are gone. Now, if the referees interpret rulings in your teams favor, they MIGHT win. Or if you team contains a superstar player. For example, if Ed Reed or Ray Lewis make a hard hit, then they are great ‘smash-mouth’ players. But if an Oakland Raider makes a hit, well the Raiders are a dirty team that draws a lot of penalties.

Maybe it was replay and technology that changed the games forever, but now like basketball, football has come a game where whoever gets the most calls wins. Don’t believe me? It started with the ‘tuck rule’ a few years ago when the Patriots were handed a berth in the Super Bowl. Watch Kobe or Lebron shoot 15-20 foul shots a game, EVERY game if you have any doubts. Oh, and now if you complain you will be given a technical foul and ejected after two, so that the fans can pay huge, over priced ticket prices to watch the bench players play.

It costs a family of 4 on average, $450 to watch an NFL game. Now, instead of watching the game, you can spend that money to watch a referee stick his head under a hood and interpret a rule that you didn’t even know existed. What a thrill!

Along with this, there will likely be a lock-out between owners and players. Millionaires against Billionaires deciding what to do with the money from a game that isn’t even a real game anymore.

Maybe I will watch hockey…

Hockey Greats: Three Players to Know

Ice hockey is a North American sport that is descended from a similar European sport. Like American football and baseball, it took root in the new world and became more popular than its ancestor. The official birth of the game dates back to Montreal, Canada in 1875 where it was played on a rink the same size as the ones used today. In over a century of competition, many titans of the game have ascended and dominated to take their place in the pantheon of greats. These three titans stand out among all the other luminaries as the best to ever lace up a pair of skates.

Wayne Gretzky

You don’t get the nickname «the great one» for nothing. Wayne Gretzky isn’t the Michael Jordan of Hockey, Michael Jordan is the Wayne Gretzky of basketball. He dominated his sport like few other athletes. Gretzky notched over 200 points (goals plus assists) in a single season in four separate years; no other player has done it once. He won the Stanley Cup four times and was named most valuable player a staggering nine times. When he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings, he instantly turned Southern California into a rabid fandom that galvanized interest in the game in the early 1990s. He retired with 61 National Hockey League records and nearly two decades later, he still holds 60 of them.

Gordie Howe

While Wayne Gretzky was a vocal advocate against fighting in hockey; Gordie Howe did his talking with his fists. When a player scores a goal, an assist, and gets into a fight, NHL fans call this the «Gordie Howe hat trick.» However, he and Gretzky were more alike than different. Howe is the only other player to break the career 800-goal mark. Howe’s toughness, grit, and muscle embodied what Canadians love about their national winter sport. Gretzky broke most of the records he set, but Howe’s 26 seasons in the league still put him ahead of everyone else.

Bobby Orr

Bobby Orr may be the odd man out on this list as the only defender, but his style of play was every bit as valuable as the prolific scorers. He won three consecutive league MVP trophies and was no slouch as a scorer either. He revolutionized the way defenders attack on power plays and still holds the record for most goals and points by a defender in a single season. He is also the only defender to ever lead the league in scoring during a season. Orr is best known for «the goal,» a give-and-go shot slapped home by Orr to give the Boston Bruins their first Stanley Cup. Even casual hockey fans are familiar with the photo of a horizontal and exuberant Orr flying through the air after netting the biggest goal in Bruins history.

Future generations may take their place but these legends will continue to live on.

Football – The Sport That the World Raves About

Today’s world raves about one sport in particular that captures the fancy of sports enthusiasts all over. The game or sport is football. The sheer ecstasy, exhilaration and adrenaline rush that football tournaments bring to the players and viewers alike is unique and unbeatable. This sport also finds its roots in history and there have been enough evidences to suggest that our ancestors too engage in this action packed form of sport in their own maverick ways.

The term football basically symbolizes a game that involves kicking and maneuvering the ball across a playing field only using legs and then attempting to score by putting the ball into the opposition’s net called as a goal. Football by itself stands for several different kinds of team sports such as rugby, soccer, American football, Canadian football, etc. But the most commonly adhered to form is football or soccer. This game involves two teams comprising of 11 or 18 players based on variations in the format competing in a clearly defined field or area. The objective of both the teams is to score goals by cohesive play tactics to pass the ball over into a goal area or over a line. The opposing team has to defend their goal posts to prevent the other team from scoring. The ball used in the game has also evolved over the years. Earlier versions were made from animal hides and sometimes were composed of inflatable bladders made from pig’s bladders or other animals.

Further advancements led to the discontinuation of animal bladders and led to the covering of the ball with leather covers to keep it in shape and rubber inflatable bladders were also included into the footballs. The game is not limited to any sexual discrimination and there are men’s as well as women’s teams from across the globe who indulge in this sport with equal enthusiasm. Clubs playing football tournaments are scattered across regions in countries and spread across continents.

Out of all the soccer or football leagues that exist in the world the English Premier League (EPL), the Spanish La Liga and the German Bundesliga are quite famous among football enthusiasts. With top clubs from these leagues embarking on Football tours and participating in various football tournaments, football patrons are treated sumptuously to the delight of seeing their favourite players and clubs in action. Federation International de Football Association (FIFA) is the governing body for football or soccer and oversees all the matters related to the game.
