Russell’s spot on here. Players wages, as large as they are, pale into insignificance compared to the corporate profit generated through the game in terms of TV revenue, sponsorship and all the rest of it. If it didn’t, the business model wouldn’t exist.

I'm a bit lost… Simon is saying player salaries are taking 90% of the air out of the room…. if a team is not its players then what is it ? Would he rather 90% of the money be spent in the boardroom ? Or on the stadium ? Does the North stand win tournaments or is it the players ?

Who is reponsible for bringing money into football? The players. Who deserves the majority of that money? The players.
Owners like Simon would love a model of wage caps like in the NFL so their expenses can be restricted and they can be free to reap the excess profits those players create with their work, skill and dedication.
