  1. anybody who downplays how good late 90s to early 2000s man utd were never actually watched them play games back then. 2023 man city would be terrified to play against them

  2. United team had a much more difficult challenges to overcome than this city team…city side is great but that United team had to go through a lot more world class teams than city….not to mention the outright breaches…

  3. As a Liverpool supporting child in the 90s I hated how good that Man Utd team were. As an adult I can look back and appreciate how class they were. If they had the sports science and finance behind them that exists now, they'd be a match for city. Pure hypothetical comparison but I love how Roy still unflinchingly defends his team. Legend

  4. Only 3 subs back then, the game was more physically demanding and tough. Also imagine Utd in 99 beating a treble chasing Bayern Munich in the final without Scholes or Keane. Hell of a performance if you ask me.

  5. I love Micah. I love Roy. I'm not a United nor a City fan but truly respect both majorly for what they've done. What Pep is doing is incredible and it's great to see a sustained success. They're not only developing a great first team, which they have and there's been a real direction – if you look at the squad Hughes, Mancini and Pellegrini had, great teams, but Pep has taken it to the next level. He's also bringing youth players through and it's great to see that he's sustained this and that the right infrastructure is there for the long-term. However what United have done for the longevity they did it for, they blew teams out the water. Managers came and went and Fergie took Utd right to the top time and time again. Until Pep stays the same length and continues to bring through the amount of players Fergie did then I don't think it can really be compared. Utd were lucky whereby they didn't have to spend hundreds of millions to build teams i.e. getting Berbatov in at £30mil, or signing players on £7M and developing them i.e. Ji Sung just shows the real quality. City have depth levels like never seen before – look at their bench unreal!! But when Utd had players in the squad like the Da Silva's, Obertan's, Saha's (great but didn't blow the water away), Obertan, Park etc, then I think it just shows what Fergie did. Both incredible on their own achievements though.

  6. Football became a lot softer as the time has passed..so there is no way we can compare both teams..coz if 99 utd team wud play now half of them would be red card carded by the half time and if this city team play in that era, half of the team would be injured..

  7. at that time winning champ league is difficult cos all teams were champion in order to qualify for champs league, unlike now where each country has 3 or 4 teams in it!!

  8. Whatever Man City are to doing to trying to do Man Utd and SAF did it first.

The 99 team was sensational and was for a few years before and after.

City are on fire but they still need to do the treble (could happen) however I won’t say they better than the 99 team as they were overcome bigger challenges IMO
