  1. Biggest problem here is all this generation kids do not know that football use to be physical ,in this current generation everything is a foul. I dont think man city would have survived in the early 2000

  2. Manchester City 2018/19. Premier League Title, League Cup and the FA Cup. Never been done before as well as doing all of this while winning 14 games on the bounce to win the league against a Liverpool team which got 97 points and also was UCL champions. That’s the greatest no doubt in my mind

  3. Would be interesting so see where they would have put last year's Liverpool team had they won the Quadruple. Only a few minutes away from the treble and one game (obviously the second best team against Madrid) away from the Quadruple.

  4. The current city team if they do the treble would get either no1 spot or joint no1 spot

With utd treble u cannot talk about points because winning the treble back in 99 wasn’t about how many points, it was about securing all 3 trophies regardless of points

So as long as you get the 3 trophies regardless of winning the premiership with 99 points or 89 points is completely irrelevant

Sometimes Alex had to mix it up for both mind games and to rest players

  5. Even as an Arsenal fan, looking back at the unbeaten season, yes it’s a great achievement but those 12 draws are a massive blemish.

    We threw away leads late on, on FIVE occasions – 1-1 Man U (H), 2-2 Spurs (A) 1-1 Everton (A), 1-1 Bolton (A) and 1-1 Leicester (A). That’s criminal.

Those 10 extra points would’ve ensured we accumulated 100 Points instead of 90.

There was also no games in that season where we are really on the ropes in terms of being behind with 80+ minutes to go, where our character would’ve really come out in the wash either way. I would say only the Pompey game away from home where we’d won the league and were just trying to get over the line in the sense of staying invincible. Reyes made it 1-1 but we did hang on a bit, aside from the missed penalty at Old Trafford obviously.

I appreciate it’s a unique achievement, but there are plenty of other teams who I would regard as better than them.

  6. city if they win the treble becomes undisputed #1. likely 90+ points, 3 leagues in a row, goalscorer who smashed PL scoring record. Also if they manage to do it, they can win a further three (super cup, cwc, community shield) do a sextuple never done in english football, united lost the super cup against lazio in 99.

  7. Thogs mat letisier didn’t play for a top club alan shearer played new castle David Ginola played at spurs the heskey at Leicester talent was more spread

  8. Thogden says this man city would batter the 99 team it's a opinion but I would've loved to see how haaland would deal with Japp Stam and Peter Schmeichel because that's a match up right there a real test for haaland

  9. Liverpool supporter of 30+ years. IMO the United ‘99 treble winning team has to be the pinnacle. Theyve done it. Although, this City team can equal the achievement… possibly. I still dont think a City treble is comparable. As they have done it with state nation funding that… lets face it… is evidently in breach of FFP. United in those days earnt their success with the money they earnt from TV rights due to winning titles. The Arsenal Invincibles and the Wenger era set the precedent for what beautiful football is in England. A truly monumental achievement to go a whole season undefeated. Klopp’s Liverpool. Won everything in the last few seasons. Competing against huge budgets of state backed clubs in clear breach of FFP on a relative shoestring budget by comparative net spend. Going a whole season and only losing one game to that state backed club. Going within 2 games of winning the quadruple. Being pipped by Real Madrid and that same state backed club. This City team and the City centurions are brilliant teams that play amazing football. The players and management are incredible. But the way the wins were gained and the way the players were assembled… is in breach of FFP, lets be honest. They bought what they have. That has to be the context in which their success is judged. It tinges it and IMO relegates their achievements to less than the United treble winners and the Arsenal Invincibles.

  10. no team will ever achieve the invincible 49 games unbeaten, City are about to do a treble, its easier to achieve a treble than unbeaten, its madness that the Invincibles are at number 5

  11. This is honestly stupid. How’s the Liverpool of 19/20 not there? Liverpool’s 17/18 team beat the centurions 3 times. That wasn’t even Liverpool best team over the years. This is shocking

  12. Rory simultaneously arguing context is important and comparing the same club's trophy records from different eras to determine which version of that team is best is my favourite part.

  13. Rory: "a treble is impossible"

Also Rory: "yeah but invincible doesn't really mean anything"

But going invincible is rarer than winning a treble so…..?

  14. The biggest when comparing eras is that players can’t defend anymore and teams defend in systems. Also love how Rory says “a treble is impossible” yet 9 clubs have done it and it’s highly likely to happen again this year 😂

  15. No team plans to be invincible at the beginning of the season. The teams plan on winning trophies, top 4 finish, European places and avoiding relegation. Whether you go invincible or not, what matters is achieving the goal. Being invincible is good, but what matters the most is to actually win something.

  16. Any city team under guardiola would break the biggest win record (9:0) against this treble winning united side they are separated from more than 20 years football has evolved a lot during this time and also this city team is dominating every single team in Europe

  17. The 2017 city team is best Prem team we've ever seen, the United 08 team is also mad but it had a few average players, the city 17 team had no average players it's why city is the best team because the quality is mad

  18. The top 5… (as of now)
1- Man Utd 99-01 3 titles in a row and the treble.
2- Man Utd 07-09 3 titles in a row and the CL
3- Man City 18-19 domestic treble, 100pts and retrained the league.
4- chelsea 05-06- 95pts (most at that time) retained the league.
5- between Man Utd 93-94 and 96-97 teams. Both won the f.a cup and league double, and retained the league.
