Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to stay at Manchester United this summer and will report back for pre-season training at the beginning of July, despite reports he is ready to quit the club.

Portuguese sports daily Record claim Ronaldo wants to leave after only one season back at Old Trafford as he fears new boss Erik ten Hag does not have the right tools to compete for titles, while he is also said to be frustrated with the club’s transfer window so far.

However, it is understood the 37-year-old is expected to return for pre-season preparations once back from his summer holidays, which will be slightly extended due to his involvement with Portugal in their three opening Nations League fixtures in June.

  1. Ronaldo is still phenomenal, but clubs are gonna be looking for long-term investments for strikers, and a 37 year old isn't one of them, and that's why he won't be able to move, even if he wanted to. It's an unusual situation because most players at this age usually go to MLS, the Chinese Super League or the UAE- they don't stay in European football. That's a testament to his mentality, but it doesn't change the fact- CR7 is unfortunately stuck. Manchester United is a club that badly needs him, at least for next season.

  2. Ronaldo is a legend a king he don't follow the record but the record follow him at the age 37 he still played in the biggest league in the world wow wat a player till the day he retired also he will be in the top level..not like messi he play in the farmer's league at the age 35…

  3. The glaziers sacked Ralf because wanted ten players. The glazers sacked Ralf because they don't want to be successful they want clowns to run the transfer window so they can take 11million in dividends.

  4. Erik Ten Hag not having the right "tools" puzzles me. They have the money. Just spend it. Bring in players that have worked well with Ajax in the past. Be aggressive and ambitious. Ronaldo is all that remains of a bygone era of glory for MU and so when he says the club need to step up their game, he must be listened to. He has earned that much at least.

  5. He was an excellent player and he still could be of value for a team, but if you are building a team where everyone needs to to his work, you can forget him. I don't think he will be of great value for Ten Hag. I don't see him defend the way haggis expect him to

  6. I think what people don't get is that Ronaldo is staying BECAUSE he's so ambitious. Everyone else says "he should leave this dead club and go achieve things". But that's likely not how he sees it. What he sees is an impossible task (returning Man Utd to near the top) and he won't be stopped in trying. It would be easy for him to go win the league with Bayern and maybe even challenge for the Champs League. But stats are just stats, and getting Man Utd back up there is a much bigger challenge.
