  1. Surely Villa has to be the biggest/most pedigreed club to go down in the Premier League era. I would put Newcastle after Villa. Everton has to be bigger than them? But in terms of fanbases West Ham has to be up there as well? (Hopefully that's all moot though given recent results).

  2. How about the ones sat right next to them… Leeds?!? back to back Champ League semi finals and top 5 Prem finishes to relegation in just 2 seasons.

  3. Looking at the fixture list now, it looks more like Leeds Utd going down instead of everton. Leeds have conceded the most BPL Goals and their fixture list is hard and wont win many. its between Leeds and Everton for it. Leeds goal difference is alot lower aswell.

  4. In the grand scheme of things Everton are one of the biggest teams in English football and have been consistently over the course of the football league. They've still won the 4th highest number of titles.

However, in the PL era they've spent 30 years at the top without ever mounting a remotely serious title challenge. In this respect, Leeds, Blackburn, Villa and Newcastle represent bigger falls from grace.

That's not to say these clubs are bigger than Everton, but on the pitch they've certainly dropped further.

  5. Good thing about Everton getting relegated is that England have an excuse to drop Pickford for Ramsdale. The fact he’s still Number 1 with 43 caps at only 28, and Ramsdale has 1 cap…ONE! He’s only 23, 24 in May, but still. Does show the weakness of Southgate & his reliance on the Maguire’s in the team, however.

  6. In terms of fan base I would say yes. Aston Villa, Newcastle and Leeds I would say are bigger in terms of fan base. How else do we measure "size"? If we are talking about only the Premier League era and success, I would also say yes, Everton have been pretty irrelevant in the Premier League era, definition of mid table obscurity.

  7. I think Everton going down might be a blessing in disguise of them , it might clear a lot of mess that is there right now……just look at Aston Villa ……also they will get promoted next year from the championship……

  8. Everton are down, I told my friends they would go down at Christmas and they've been in freefall ever since. Everyone around them has been winning, it's looking extremely ominous for them.

  9. -After Burnley vs Watford : 2-1 > My prediction = Burnley will stay.
-Now between Everton & Leeds United > I think Leeds United will go down.
-Leeds will face Manchester City , Arsenal & Chelsea (they will not win these 3 games. Maximum result= 1-2 points)
-I hope Everton will stay. EPL without Everton is a very sad thing.

  10. Does it matter who is the biggest club ever to go down? And it is also impossible to quantify. Wolves years ago were bigger than Man Utd and Liverpool, Stoke too. They went down, and now Stoke aren’t considered a big club.
