If the goal technology actually worked that time, Aston Villa could've lost the game and finished at 18th place and got relegated, which could cause their big players to move to Premier League clubs. And one of those players is Jack Grealish who could've moved to other clubs like Arsenal or Tottenham who might be interested in him. That resulted Man City to never signed Grealish which was the only reason why they couldn't sign Messi, in the next season when Messi was done done with Barça, City could sign him. Imagine what would happen if Messi was in the Premier League and playing with that City team.
