A draw, or tied score, is a frequent outcome in soccer. In the 2008-2009 season, almost a quarter of all Premier League matches resulted in a draw. Because such an outcome is so common, traditional betting usually involves betting within the context of three different outcomes: a win for one team, a draw, or a win for the other team. The «Asian handicap» is a means of changing this by «handicapping» the underdog by a certain percentage, meaning that a draw becomes impossible.

Most handicaps are made at intervals of one half or one quarter, meaning that there has to be a winner since it is impossible to score a half or quarter goal. The purpose is to make the odds as close to 50-50 as possible and eliminating the draw as a possible outcome. Because the odds are almost half when a handicap is applied, the payout is usually even money, or very close to it.

The primary benefit is encouraging punters to bet on matches where there is a clear favorite. For example, if Manchester United (winner of the Premier League in the 2008-2009 season) were to play West Bromwich (the bottom team of the Premier League during the same season), few punters would be interested in betting. This is because Manchester United is a much better team and the odds are strongly in their favor.

However, if West Bromwich was given a handicap of +2.5, it would mean that they would be effectively starting with a lead of 2.5 goals. This means Manchester United would have to score three goals more than West Bromwich to be the winner as far as the bet is concerned. If West Bromwich scored one goal, then Manchester would have to score four to win. Handicapping obviously changes the odds significantly.

An interesting aspect of handicapping is the push. If an even number is used for the handicap, and the actual score plus the handicap equals a draw, then this is a push. For example, if in the example given above West Bromwich was given a handicap of 2 and failed to score any goals, and Manchester United only scored two goals, this would be a push. The result of a push is that all the punters receive their original wagers returned as there was no winner.

The «Asian Handicap» adds an additional element to soccer betting that can be both fun and profitable. This form of betting can be helpful for those punters that have a personal favorite that they intend to bet on, but are not confident that their favorite will win a particular match.

When people hear the mention of the Shankill Road in Belfast, they would in all likelihood think of a place where angels fear to thread. Brought up on the Shankill Road in Belfast, Norman Whiteside was discovered by none other than Bob Bishop, who previously recommended George Best and Sammy McIlroy to the Old Trafford club. Whiteside achieved legendary status when he became the youngest player ever to score in a FA Cup final as Manchester United beat Brighton and Hove Albion 4-0 in the 1983 replay.

Despite being converted into a midfield player, he also scored the winning goal in the 1985 FA Cup final to give Manchester United victory over Everton. Referee Peter Willis also managed to hit the headlines on this warm London afternoon as Kevin Moran became the first player to be sent off in an FA Cup final following his rather clumsy challenge on Everton midfielder Peter Reid.

Even though they were down to ten players, Manchester United nonetheless fancied their opportunities as the game entered extra time. Furthermore, the Manchester United players just went on fighting even harder as they became progressively determined to present the Evertonians the coup de grace.

With 110 minutes on the clock, Norman Whiteside suddenly cut in from the right wing and hit a sensational curling shot past a fully stretched Neville Southall from 25 yards. It was a moment of pure and simple magic from Whiteside as he scored the only goal of the match bringing FA Cup glory to the Old Trafford club once again.

Norman Whiteside went on to make 273 appearances for Manchester United scoring a total of 66goals in the process. Tormented by a knee injury, he was finally sold to Everton in 1989 for £600,000. A regular member of the vastly talented Northern Ireland team that went to the 1982 and 1986 World Cups, Whiteside gained 38 full caps for his country.

When injury ended his playing career at the comparatively young age of 26, Whiteside went to become a foot doctor and he now works at the Professional Footballers’ Association.

Test Cricket

The oldest form of cricket is Test Cricket. The game of cricket actually evolved with Test Cricket. Records show that first ever test match was played between Australia and England in the year 1876-77. The game of cricket has come a long way since then. The rules have changed a lot. A test match is played over a period of five days with each team batting and bowling twice. Maximum over that can be bowled in a day is 90 while there is no limit on the number of over a single bowler can bowl. Over 2000 test matches have been played till date.

There are nine test playing nations which are full members of International Cricket Council – The International Cricket Governing body. These members are Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies.

One Day International

Limited over cricket was introduced in England in the year 1963. Internationally, the first limited over game was played in the year 1971. One game is played in one day. A bowler can bowl a maximum of 10 over’s in a game. In 1975, a new tournament known as World cup came into existence. All International Cricket Council members gathered at one place for a series of matches against each other. The winners of tournament were termed as World Champions.

World cup is played after every four years. ICC has conducted 10 world cups till date. Australia became champions four times, West Indies and India twice while Pakistan and Sri Lanka once. The last world cup was held in the year 2011 and was won by India.

Twenty-Twenty

The latest evolution in the game of cricket is twenty-twenty. Here, each team plays 20 overs and a bowler can bowl a maximum of four overs. First international Twenty-twenty game was played in the year 2005 between Australia and New Zealand. First twenty-twenty world cup was held in 2007. The tournament is played every two years and twenty-twenty world champions are crowned. 20 international teams have played the game till date.

Even after 100 years of its existence, the popularity of game is still increasing. More and more people are taking up this sport. It is only second to Football in terms of followers around the globe and is set to post a challenge for the top slot very soon.
