  1. Roma v Dundee Utd European cup semi final should have been included since it denied Dundee Utd a European Cup final place and possibly the top trophy in European club football. Italians at it again! ?

  2. #5 Is so much deeper than that. I love the shortened version, but it does deserve a deep rewind of u will Alfie.

For those who are reading, there were many more controversial topics around the match and that WC in general. For instance, it is documented that the Argentinian government sent a "donation" to Perú just a couple of days after the match.

It was all a disaster here, sadly. We are not a great example by any means of a great country (despite our football prowess)

  3. In the build-up to the Argentina and The Netherlands final in 1978 the host decided to move a concert/festival into the square in front the hotel where the Dutch squad was staying and have the band playing throughout the night underneath the players windows. The Argentine worldcup hosts used every dirty trick to make sure the Dutch squad would get no sleep ahead of the final.

  4. The Disgrace of Gijon drew some REALLY strong reactions from fans and commentators.

Fans in the stands waved paper money at the players and chanted "Let them kiss! Let them kiss!" German and Austrian fans jeered, while one West German was so upset he burned the West German flag in protest. The TV commentator for West Germany at one point said, "This is a farce. That is all I will say." And sure enough, he kept silent the rest of the game. The TV commentator for Austria outright said, "Viewers, please watch something else. Anything else deserves your attention more than this."

Even the local newspaper in Gijon had a strong reaction: The match report was printed in the paper's crime section.

  5. Uruguay – Yugoslavia, 1930 World Cup semi finals. It was beyond rigged. Uruguay won 6 – 1 with almost all goals influenced by some nefarious ways. Crowd was armed and even threatened referees with guns. One of the goals was scored by a police officer working security, standing by the Yugoslavian goal. Shot from Urugay missed and he just kicked the ball in, and it counted…

  6. Funny to think that both World Cup wins from Argentina came from not legit reasons, pretty disgusting if you ask me, and the fact that they are even acknowledged by FIFA as a 2 time champions

  7. Doesn't so much bother me that you make your videos political, but more so makes me happy that I get decent football content while hearing a lefty whine and having a comments section full of complainers from which to quench my thirst for socialist snowflake tears 🙂
    Keep it up, mate!

  8. £20,000 is only £57000 today?
£27000 would pay a 50% deposit on a London home in 1984 (about £300,000 today) or an entire detached home with garden in central England. Try finding that for £57000

  9. Are you aware of why there are black stripes on the goal posts in the Argentina world cup? I don't know if it's apocryphal, but it might be an interesting investigation

  10. Here in Serbia there are few storied about 1991 UCL final and how Marseille tried to bribe Red Star players and staff into losing the game. Goalkeeper Stojanovic basically got approached by some shady men with a bag full of money and advice to "sell the game or else", while Savicevic who would later play for AC Milan said few other players were offered 500.000 deutsche mark each to sell the game.

While these accounts still aren't 100% confirmed as truth, considering Marseille would get busted for match fixing just two years later and the fact that stories came directly from the mouths of players and staff who were in the club at that time, not some fan forum or tabloid gossip, there's a decent chance I would say of them being accurate.

  11. When I was in 5th year at Senior School back in 1988 my games teacher absolutely despised me. I wouldn't let him molest me in the showers, and he took offence to this. Because of this, every time I scored a goal, scored a try, bowled someone out, it was either offside, not grounded properly, or a no ball. So games teachers can be corrupt. Not because of betting, but because they were bullies, and kiddie fiddlers.

This is a true story, well documented.
