To mark Black History Month, Sky Sports speaks to some of the pioneers who braved abuse and changed English football forever.
England’s first black footballer Viv Anderson and West Brom legend Brendon Batson reveal the racism that confronted them in an often hostile society and at stadiums where hate regularly poured down from the terraces.
Football’s ongoing problems with racism even today are underlined by Liverpool and England U17 World Cup winner Rhian Brewster, who was racially abused five times in seven months, with little done to punish his abusers.
Finally, Batson, Anderson and Brewster give their thoughts on what can be done to erase racism from the game for good.

Attitudes have changed little in 50 years.
So you hate us just because of a pigment in our skin nothing else. Did you take a moment to think just for a second?
This aged poorly
Fine each individual in the team & the the HR department, so that they all feel it. Bet things will change.
British Football Clubs originally insisted players had to be from a Club area and authentic, was that racists? now it seems there is no end of players of African origin.
How about a new British Football Team called Africans United UK? only blacks allowed of course, or would that be recist?
Anybody notice Viv Anderson in the latest call of duty game ??
Live no stupid room for racism..
Viv Anderson Wednesday legend.
Justin fashanu should have been on this show. As the first young black footballer to sign one million pounds football contract. He was dubíuosly demised. Poor chap. Racism us brutal, no joke about it. Peace to everyone watching this.
It's not about Racism it's about why your parents don't encourage you to play for the country your origin!!!
One thing that is eye opening even today is watching and listening to commentators. Watch and listen to how often the adjectives powerful and strong are used but how infrequently black players are described as skilled and intelligent. Once you take a second to absorb this piece of information, you will see how stereotypes are embedded in football. Watching a Milan game , commentators kept saying just how powerful kessie was, when he’s actually one of their most technically gifted midfielders. Even fans, saying that having bakayoko and kessie together would be too much strength and more technical players would be required, like tonali. A kid that has proven nothing yet is being described as more technically gifted than kessie and bakayoko.
Congratulation's, to/for ALL Black FOOTballers, for: "Black History (and EmPOWERment)_ -Month!!"??
Racism is the last seal for a loser as he got nothing else to criticize
BOOOO RACISM
ഇതൊക്ക മലപ്പുറത്തെ seven's tournament ന് ഒന്ന് വന്നു കണ്ടാൽ മതി. അവിടെ കറുത്തവർക്ക് ആണ് സ്ഥാനം. Stop racism. This is beauty full game
??????
remember some of the great players are black…………..its not about colour, it about talent you should resoect.
That’s what’s happening in USA now, the far right rising , with Trump at the helm ?
