Whether it be in rich countries or poor countries, hot or cold, east or west, it doesn’t appear to make any difference, football can thrive in any culture and any climate, and whilst sports like cricket and basketball are played and watched by hundreds of million of people across the globe, none come close to football.
So in this video, HITC Sevens asks why association football is so popular, what are the reasons for it’s enduring and ever-growing popularity, and why some major countries like India and the USA haven’t quite caught the football bug.

In USA european football never will be a major sport, they are too way much nationalistic and they see european football as an invasion and a betrayal of their identity. I don't know about India, they are crazy about cricket. China yes.

That cultral representation is heavy in american sports as well. So many people will rep a team just cause of locale or cause their opps rep their rivals.

I am from India. Here Cricket is Religion and in near 50 years no chance that Football will take over or even conpete with Cricket in India and in Indian Subcontinent which includes countries like Srilanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, Uae. In Carribean Islands Cricket is also like Religion. In all these countries Cricket is just like religion. In Australia, Newzealand, South Africa Cricket is No. 2 and in England it is No. 3 Popular Sports and in many African Countries Cricket popularity is growing. Presently 2nd Most Popular Sports after Soccer.
Not everywhere in africa is THAT naughbourhood.
